New mini Asus laptop at Rp 4 million (US$450)
By kurnia • Apr 2nd, 2008 • Category: JUST DO ITUpdate: I decided to buy one EEPC cos I need a lot of presentations. It really helps me and I think I fall in love with it as it suits my style. I got it cheaper because I knew the person from Asus.
(Last November): I just returned from Indocomtech exhibition in Jakarta Hall Convention Center, Senayan
to check out a tempting mini laptop produced by Asus. The laptop, named EEE PC 710, is sold here at Rp 4.7 million. The screen size is only 7 inches, half than a normal laptop with a weight of less than 1 kilogram.
It has less weight as it doesn’t use a hard drisk drive. They call it flash to replace the hard disk drive. Although there are several version of flashes, 4 , 8 and 16 GB, Indonesia market will be only allotted with the 4 GB flash version, according to a customer service at the Compucare stand.
For specifications, I refers to http://www.eeepc.net/ which posted specifications of Eee PC 710 from a press release.
Display: 7 inches
CPU & Chipset: Intel mobile CPU & chipset
OS: Linux/ Microsoft Windows XP compatible
Communication: 10/100 Mbps Ethernet; 56K modem
WLAN: WiFi 802.11b/g
Graphic: Intel UMA
Memory: 512MB, DDR2-400
Storage: 4/ 8/ 16GB Flash
Webcam: 300K pixel video camera
Audio: Hi-Definition Audio CODEC; Built-in stereo speaker; Built-in microphone
Battery Life: 3hrs (4 cells: 5200mAh, 2S2P)
Dimension & Weight: 22.5 x 16.5 x 2.1~3.5cm, 0.89kg
For an active person, the laptop looks attractive at affordable price, but perhaps we need to monitor first its reliability, and durability from the first 10 buyers who just ordered it in the exhibition. Lucky me as a friend of mine has decided to order it, therefore I could wait for his testimony about the mini laptop.
Reports said that 300,000 Eee PC 710 had already been sold in Taiwan.
